Become a Volunteer
Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of Support The Girls Australia. Support The Girls Australia is predominantly managed and run by volunteers being a non-funded grass roots organisation. Our volunteers are pivotal to us being able to support women and girls in Australian communities.
What does volunteering involve?
We have numerous roles for our volunteers and it is entirely up to them how they would like to donate their time. Nearly all our work is done during the working week, so availability during the week is vital. We also need people for our Outreach Projects. This requires people who have the capacity to be away for a few days.
If you are a business professional that has a skill set that can add value to our purpose and ethos we would love to hear from you. If you are wanting to make new friends or just give back to your community, or you would like to meet more people and want to be appreciated for the values you can bring to others come on board and join us.
We adhere to the National Standards for Volunteeers to ensure our Volunteeers are supported. We provide all our volunteers with training and ongoing training to ensure they are educated and supported across the board. We also have COVID-19 safe practices in place across the organisation.
Bra Fairy Volunteer Opportunities
Are you ready to put your Bra Fairy Wings on and help transform disadvantaged women into empowered individuals? If the answer is yes, then we need you now. There are many ways in which you can contribute your time to Support The Girls Australia and help us make a difference. We appreciate that everyone leads a busy life so you choose what suits you and your lifestyle.
- Drop Off Point – This is a vital role as it gives us more coverage around the country.
- Work with our Outreach Team – Our outreach team members are selected based on very specific criteria to ensure they can meet the multiple needs they may find out on the streets. Training is provided.
- Coordinate Events – with our growth comes the need for more events. We host them on a regular basis around the country so if it is your passion then we would love to hear from you.
- Fundraising – Are you a guru and want to add your magic creative skills to the our team, then we would love to hear from you.
If you have a skill or talent that you would love to share with us, just let us know.
Outreach Volunteering Opportunities
Remote Outreach Program: The Remote Outreach Program is exactly what it says. We visit communities that we have either identified as being in need, or where we have been contacted by an organisation or local community groups asking for support. We are only too well aware that there are women and girls in some of the most most remote communities in our country that simply do not have access to the basic necessities in life. This is either due to remote location or the exorbitant cost of the items within their communities. So many of these communities that we visit, do not even have a lingerie store, or large retail store where they can purchase items.
For our Remote Outreach Program we require volunteers that have the time and flexibility to be on the road for two to three days. We are always looking for trained professional bra fitters to join us. Some of our trips are funded through grants and some of them volunteers cover their own expenses to have the experiences. They are a wonderful bonding experience for our volunteers as well as getting to see the country and meet amazing women who teach us so much.
Service Provider Outreach Program: Service Provider Outreach Programs are the same as our Remote Outreach programs, the only difference being they are requested by services within a rural community. We endeavour to get all our expenses covered by the service provider but there maybe times when there is an expense to our volunteers. They also require volunteers who are able to travel for 2-3 days. We are always looking for trained professional bra fitters to join us.
BreastScreen NSW Rural Outreach Partnership Volunteering Opportunities
We have been collaborating with BreastScreen NSW for the whole of 2023 and the impact has been remarkable. We have travelled to places like Goulburn, Queanbeyan, Moruya and Albury/Wadonga. The purpose of these collaborations is to increase the participation rate in mammograms for indigenous women. The results have seen an enormous increase in indigenous women getting screened and this is saving lives. We take a group of 8 – 10 volunteers on each trip.
We are always in need of Professional Bra Fitters and volunteers to fulfill the various roles. These events are enormously rewarding and knowing that we are changing lives is the biggest reward. We also get to work alongside incredibly dedicated Aboriginal Health services who go above and beyond for their clients. These events are usually 3-4 days.
